課程概述

For understanding of Southeast Asian cultures and peoples, in this course I will explain the general historical change in ascending order from the 19th century to prehistorical period as like as archaeological excavation by focusing on cultural heritages. In this area, what is formed is not a gathering of each history of present nations, but total perspectives based on several important historical waves;
1. The Last Dynasties in the Continent (19th C.: Traditional way for modernization),
2. The Age of Development (18th C.: Later Chinese impact),
3. The Age of Commerce (13th-17th C.: Theravada Buddhism, Islamization, Early port cities, Coming of European powers),
4. The Indianization (2nd -14th C.: Indianization, Hindu & Mahayana Buddhism, Maritime Kingdoms, Early Chinese impact),
5. Prehistorical civilization (Original Cultures)
Because generally Southeast Asian history was not recorded by documents written in own languages of this area, it will be focused on material cultural elements/archaeological remains in each wave.
